Knowledge and Belief
Belief and knowledge are concepts that baffle many thinkers. Philosophers inherently have argued about areas to draw the distinction between belief and knowledge. According to Plato, knowledge is defined as the true and justified belief. Justified in this case translates to something that is reasonable and rational, and is empirically proved with evidence. On the other hand, belief is a faith in something, but one may not or may hold as a fact. Thus, if someone has the belief and enough reasons to have faith in agreement with facts of truth, this becomes knowledge (Lee, 2011). Consequently, in beliefs one has no evidence to ascertain something is true whereas in knowledge, facts support it as the truth.
Here is my account explaining on belief and knowledge differences. Among the people I believe that truly love me is my beloved mother. It is my strong believe that mothers are naturally born bearing distinctive characteristics for affection and love. Some people may confuse loves meaning with the aspect of a provider, which is within the traits of the love of a mother but with a distinct meaning. Even if there is no tangible evidence that verifies the fact that mothers are innately born to care for and adore their children, through corporeal emotions and experience I have learned to believe it as the truth (Schmitt, 2012).
The love of my mother over time has been displayed to me in many aspects. I can say that I was born and raised during the era when provision of things was not as abundant as it is in the contemporary society. In aIDition, the environment and community I grew in were not the safest or friendliest place in which a child can be raised. Irrespective of this life of squalor and want, my mother deprived herself of pleasures many times in order to meet my needs. This is a belief rather than knowledge because no physical evidence has been provided showcasing her love to me (Schmitt, 2012). Only that the reactions and actions vehemently have demonstrated her love is true. I have enough empirical evidence of this love.
The first empirical evidence of my mothers love is when she used to wake up very early in the morning, prepare breakfast in time for school, take me to the house of the babysitter before six oclock, and take a bus to her workplace. In the evening, she did the same process after work. Her devotion to ensuring I was cared for is enough to believe her love as true to me. Many may argue that it was her duty or responsibility as mother but this is love in its best demonstration. The second evidence of empiricism is during a time I was experiencing severe fits growing up. On several occasions, I was hospitalized as a result of the severe fits. However, mother was always with me by the hospital bed despite putting her job in jeopardy in order to ascertain that I was cared for. At one time, her boss almost fired her for re-scheduling her assignments so as to stay by my side nursing me. The other evidence on love display was in high school at my final graduation. Her emotions were uncontrollable on that day even though she has always advocated keeping ones emotions private. She cried of joy seeing me graduate, which also made me cry. This was a show of how she loved and adored me and was quite proud of her love.
The reason for believing her love is based on natural instinct, which occurs as a child is carried by the mother. That instinct develops from the time one is conceived to his or her birth, which is to protect and love the child by all means. Another logical reason for love by the mother is the duty to protect and care for a baby in which a strong bond is nurtured. The final reason is based on the quality of relationship developed on time spent together. This increases feelings and vehemently develop strong bond of love (Lee, 2011).
In conclusion, reviewing the topic of belief or knowledge from the evidence displayed, I believe that a person can show true love to another person. Although empiricism is essential for the decision on the love belief, love is based on feeling and demonstrating it becomes hard to explain.
