Early Childhood Games and their Benefits
Most children in their early years prefer to play for several hours as this helps in their mental, social, and physical development. There are quite a number of gaming activities for early childhood development ranging from indoor games to the active outdoor games(Pramling and Marilyn 14).This paper discusses the common early childhood games and their benefits to children in terms of enhancing general and educational development.
In the developing a child’s skills’ a young child can engage in simple video games with either a parent or another child as an opponent. In this kind of game, the opponents can engage in shooting a target or by simply competing against each other in car racing. This game has the benefit of enhancing the child’s fine motoring skills where they develop good hand-eye coordination, an essential skill in several fields like engineering and surgery. In aIDition, the children get to understand that in life, people have to strive for excellence amid challenges that may surface (Pramling and Marilyn 34).
Another kind of early childhood game is the running race where young children compete in a race to find out who will emerge the first at the finish line. Most children enjoy this kind of game due to their childhood enthusiasm and active lifestyle. The benefits attached to this kind of gaming behavior range from refining the child’s motoring skills while at the same time improving their health and fitness status. A parent or an educator may wish to combine the active sports by swinging the children in a seesaw balance where the children play under the weight of one another. While the children may enjoy the swinging effect, they get to understand simple life science like the effect of weight in aIDition to enhancing their sense of balance (Pramling and Marilyn 58).
Besides choosing physical games for the children, parents and educators may focus on mental games like helping and challenging the children to work out simple puzzles. This stimulates the children’s brain hence improving on their mental capacity. This skill is crucial to them when it comes to facing challenging situations in life. Finally, children can pay in a circle where they let one child to eliminate each one of them one by one by counting until the winner emerges. It may seem like a simplified game but it has the power to improve the child’s cognitive and counting skills, which will help them in their subsequent studies and life (Pramling and Marilyn 122).
